OLEX JUNE 16th 2009
by Ellie Ross
I estimate there to be approximately 80 horses at the Ontario Livestock Exchange Auction today.
While I was busy discussing things like changes at OLEX with management, I missed the first 2/3rds of the sale.
Based on the last 30 horses I witnessed go thru the auction ring prices ranged from as low as 4 cents/lb - 55 cents/lb.
While there were a fair number of Standardbreds today, they were not the majority of the horses ---for a change.
For those of you on TWITTER - I was 'Tweeting' Live from the sale with descriptions and prices as they went through. Typing fast on a cell phone fast is not always easy!

Prices seemed to be inconsistent as far as meat horses were concerned. There were two competitive meat buyers in attendance today.
I did not see any OTTBs today however, there were two TB geldings that were not tattooed. Their outcome is not known to me.
Special note to Jess - thanks for arranging to hang out and learn.
Looking forward to the Queen's Plate this weekend.
Special Thank you again to Down The Stretch Newspaper and their commitment to covering at least one 'rescue' story in each issue.
This is the only newspaper covering TB, Standardbred and now even QH racing in Ontario! Pick up your copy today and give consideration to this fine paper with your advertising needs!
I like what you are doing for the horses. I am an associate of the Pocono Equestrian Organization. They rescue horses and train them to assist with special needs children.
ReplyDeleteNow I have a plan to build an equestrian based resort in Pocono (Pennsylvania) and the same in Liberia, Africa. In Liberia we will bring 12 industries to teach to the people so they can have a true economy.
If anyone would like to help you can email me at prosperitycoalitionllc@gmail.com and I will explain how.
